Spring Fever

Hi Stylista’s,

I’ve been hectic lately haven’t blogged in a couple of days but I promise you this post will be very helpful for you.
Are you like me, as soon as the season’s start to change and the days get longer and warmer, you want a fresh new colour or a shorter do? Well, here are some tips that might help you.

Today I want you to have a good look at your face shape in the mirror, grab your fav lipstick and draw a line on the mirror or tell somebody to help you draw it for you. This will show you exactly what your face shape is, there are 4 main faces shapes Round, Long (Heart), Oval & Square.

Let’s have a look at a round face shape, this face gives the impression of a very full face as you can see the cheekbones are not defined.

This particular face shape would need a hairstyle that lengthens the face, short fringes should be avoided. A long fringe like the above, lengthens and makes the face look slimmer. Do NOT whatsoever cut your hair short no matter what your hairdresser or friends say this will give the impression of a fuller face and possibly make you look fat, remember to avoid flat hair. Always try and have volume in the hair, height on top of the head effectively would elongate the face and make it look slimmer. Longer styles are more appropriate for this face shape or even if the hair curved slightly at the ends. Another point one should note if having a round face is that parting on the side makes a round face slimmer.

Let’s have a look at the ever so beautiful Sex & the City star Sarah Jessica Parker, she is one of those women who have a long face or a heart shaped face.  If you have a long face like Ms.Bradshaw herself here are some tips that might help you with your hairstyle this spring.

Hairstyles on a long face need a style that creates anillusion of width to bring balance by shortening the length of the face. The easiest way to do this is with a feathered fringe not a straight fringe. Hair should be short or medium length such as soft bobs. Parting should be at the side to help create an asymmetrical detail and middle partings without fringes should be avoided ,long hairstyles should be avoided also because it will only emphasise the face shape like the above, not a very good hairstyle for her face shape.

If you are one of those lucky ladies with an oval face shape and defined cheekbones, well you do not need any tips from me, because you can experiment and play around with your hair as much as you like, you can have it long, short, shaved ala GI Jane, side parting, middle parting, long fringe, short fringe you name it, you are lucky enough to do whatever you want with your hair cause everything suits you!

Last but not least, if your face shape is like Ms. Congeniality here, you have to be very careful since you have an angular jaw line you don’t want to end up with a haircut that makes you look masculine.

Square faces give an impression that they are bony and angled at the jaw line. Like the round face, square faces need height at the top of the head to create an impression of length and fringes should be avoided as should a centre parting, instead one should opt for a side parting this will create an asymmetrical style and have soft layers in the hair to soften the hard lines of the face. The hairstyle is perfect for her, she nailed it!

So there you have it, now start looking for that perfect haircut to compliment your fresh and colourful wardrobe this Spring, I already have :)

Keep checking for more tips and tricks.
