DVF - The Icon

In 1972 Diane Von Furstenberg first made waves with a simple yet radical directive ‘Feel like a woman wear a dress’ Five million wrap dressed later she graced the November 1976 cover of Newsweek, an icon of female liberation and the most marketable designer since Coco Chanel. After launching her own cosmetics line and a home furnishings collection, she stepped away from the fashion limelight and moved to Paris only to make a huge comeback in 1992 with Silk Assets, a pioneer in television shopping, the collection sold out in less than 2hrs. In ’97 DVF relaunched her clothing line & her iconic wrap dress received a warm welcome once again. This time it was the daughters of the first wave audience who welcomed the wrap dresses into their wardrobes. Today the DVF empire includes sportswear, beauty & fragrance line, not to forget a flagship store is a cornerstone of the meatpacking district’s fashion quarter and boutiques all over the world. DVF’s hallmarks include graphic floral, prints, cinch waist skirt suits and forties glamour with a hippy chick twist.

Yesterday at NYFW DVF showcased her latest collection, before the show she let the crowd attending in on a little secret ‘Fashion is a puzzle’. Using jigsaw puzzle pieces as a prominent theme of her fall collection presented to a packed house that included some of her personal friends such as Oscar De La Renta, Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters. There was a puzzle print on a pink sleeves dress & a puzzle box bag.

She alternated between plunging sophisticated necklines, simple dresses in dark colours and fun cocktail numbers in bright tropical shades of pink, lime green and blue. And I must add the gloves, I love leather gloves and this is the proper way they should be worn.

She calls her latest collection ‘Rendezvous, it’s all about loving to be a woman, it’s about seduction, its bold, daring and strong. It’s all about liking your body'.

I can’t get enough of DVF especially her wrap dresses, they are a definite must have and they flatter you in so many different ways, her prints are eye catching, bright and have a retro feel, perfect for those summer nights out! Love Love Love her collections.
