Tartan me!

The plaid / tartan have been seen having its way with fashion since 2009 – 2010. For the coming seasons, we are going to see it lead the way for autumn 2012.

For spring / summer 2012 tartan had a 50 / 60’s air to it but for next season we will see plaid in a whole new light.

We are seeing wide legged trousers and A-line tailored coats. Among the red and black tartan gracing NYFW, if you look closely to the fabric that has been presented to us on the runway you will notice that it’s not only the usual tartan we all know from the Braveheart movies, some of it has been woven with strips of red, copper and military green performing a ‘peek-a-boo’ with the otherwise repetitive prints.

Michael Kors Autumn/Winter 2012 - 2013

Plaid is taking a spin and adapting from men’s wardrobe to women’s 2012-2013 collections.

This year don’t wear a thick plaid button shirt with skinny jeans and trench coat, instead go BOLD with printed pants or wear tartan scarves, shoes or bags look at Vivienne Westwood for inspiration J it’s all about the layering and do not be afraid to wear print on prints.

Don’t be afraid to wear tartan, here are a few tips to help you when shopping:-

  • Always keep in mind the fabric of the garment you are buying not only when buying tartan and always read the care labels provided, this will help you choose your clothing wiser to suit your lifestyle and wearability of a garment.
  • Always layer, layering is key to next season’s collections.
  • Invest in plaid/tartan pencil skirts, taking into consideration the fabric, you’ll always be able to wear it all year round by updating it with different accessories to suit that particular season.
  • Remember plaid is not only red and black, Experiment with colours and always remember to be yourself!
I must say, I'm really looking forward to autumn/winter this year can't wait to get my hands on a few plaid pieces <3

Till next time.
