Tricks & Treats

I can’t stop talking about all the beautiful bright colours and patterns that are all around us this season, always hoping for a sunny day so I can strut a new outfit.
Today I decided to help you work the new trends into your wardrobe and wear them to suit you with these tips and guidelines.  It’s not enough going to your favourite store and buying what’s in, you have to know how to make it work for you!
It’s all about lines and colour, always make sure to create a vertical line with your outfit, this will make you look taller and slimmer for example, you can create this by wearing a patterned, bright, colourful blazer or jacket and muting the rest of the outfit in the same colour, right there you have created a vertical line and instantly you will look taller and slimmer immediately, you don’t always have to mute your outfit when wearing a blazer but doing so you are automatically creating a line and this will make you look taller. Even when buying a dress make sure the lines are going down your body not across, work horizontal lines only on the smallest part of your body.

Vertical Lines
Horizontal Lines on Petite Frames

Horizontal lines should be used with cautiousness, if you are tiny and petite or you're small chested you may wear horizontal lines on tops, but remember wearing lines that go across your body make you look wider than you really are and vertical lines make you look taller and slimmer.
Another tip you may want to adapt to your wardrobe is the use of colour, some of us aren’t brave enough to wear a monochromatic outfit (same colour head to toe) but after reading this it might be a staple in your wardrobe. By creating a column of colour you will look much taller and slimmer, apart from looking very elegant and chic. It doesnt necessarily mean that you have to wear only one shade of the same colour, you can wear the same colour in 2 different shades, this look creates an illusion of length.

Talking about colour, I don’t want to forget to mention the use of pastel colours, work the pastel colour trend to your advantage don’t just wear something because it’s in this season. Pastel colours make you look wider than you really are, but don’t fret, you can still wear them if you follow these guidelines, if you have a pear shaped figure buy  tops and shirts in pastel colours and opt for a warmer shade for the bottom , this will help balance out your figure. If you want to camouflage an area in your body DO NOT wear pastel colours in that area, unless its very flowy, but you still can enjoy the trend by wearing it in the smallest part of your body. Pastel colours are also seen in accessories, shoes and handbags, dont be afraid to play around with a trend and make it your own.

We can all make use of these tips and guidelines and once you have mastered them, you will be ready to step out, look and feel different about yourself.
It’s not about how many clothes you have in your closet, it’s about how you wear trends and make them work for you and your unique style and shape.
